Hi, my name is Asher, and I am a nursery leader; there are two lovely little girls at our school whose brave mummy Sadie is battling cancer. To help even just a little, I will be shaving my hair to help fund the charity H&T Clients Charitable Trust, which will fund Sadie's treatment. I will be shaving all of my hair off which is roughly 12.5 inches! Sadie's courage really moved me and is why I want to help her cause. Please see the below to understand her journey, and please, please kindly donate where you can!! Thank you.
'I am Sadie Ray, and I'm on the cancer rollercoaster!
Let's be honest how awkward is that for a conversation starter!
People just don't know what to say or do; I wouldn't of either until today.
What one, I hear you ask? This is a tricky task because I'm extra special; I got dealt a rare one - a Germ Cell Tumour that massively lacks humour!
On countless occasions, people offer support; but up until now, no one could help this cancer abort!
But today is a new day filled with new options and hope, which to me is pretty dope!
Now the opportunity to access clinical research and cancer treatment that might just kick this cancer's butt!!!
But there's one catch that upsets my gut........
It isn't funded by NHS or my private medical insurance, which doesn't fill me with much assurance.
So to cut to the chase, I am calling on support far and wide to raise enough money to make this cancer hide!
If you can find it in your heart, please dig deep and help me tear this cancer apart!
I'm now at the end of the rhymes, but my whole story is below if you have time!
I'm a mother to two beautiful little girls - Olivia, five and Isabella, three - and a loving wife to Steven. I've been on this cancer rollercoaster now for two years.
In July 2020, I was initially diagnosed with Cancer of Unknown Primary and given a few months to live; seeking a second opinion gave me new hope and access to
chemotherapy. After 12 rounds of chemotherapy, I finally got a second biopsy which confirmed I had a germ cell tumour - curable cancer - and was referred to a
specialist in London.
I was put on a regime that included a further six rounds of chemo, followed by two stem cell transplants.
For the transplants, I had to stay in a London hospital, each for a month at a time - in isolation without seeing my children, husband or any family or friends.
The hope was to have surgery to remove the tumour, but a recent scan showed a spread of cancer, so this was cancelled.
My oncologist recommended a tumour sample to be sent to Caris in America for DNA sequencing - a test that might give a more targeted therapy.
In the meantime, I was given further chemo to help manage the spread of cancer. But my body at this time was not strong enough to recover from this
treatment.
Thankfully the results from Caris came back, and we thankfully have a few options to choose from; I'd started with an immunotherapy called pembrolizumab;
This treatment was funded by H&T Clients Charitable Trust and my family.
After four infusions of Pembrolizumab, scans had unfortunately shown progression. Therefore, the 5th infusion wasn't offered.
We are back to further testing and investigations to access other treatments and are advised these won't be offered on the NHS as before.
More fundraising, here we come!
I am forever thankful for the support and help; thank you with all my heart.'
