Shaving Head to Raise Money for Suicide Prevention
Sitting on the back of the bus, we were heading to a tournament. It was so early that it was still dark out. We were making jokes about being off weight and looking forward to the day. I thought those days would never end. Kaleb Wright was one of my best friends and committed suicide almost two years ago.
I have witnessed mental health issues with people in my life before, my Aunt committed suicide when I was younger and I had another teammate commit suicide a couple of months before Kaleb. The memories of people that are not with us will live on forever, and the people will always be missed. I think about Kaleb before every wrestling match, remembering the times we had.
His birthday and the day he passed away is right around the corner and he has been on my mind. I decided to raise money for my local Mental Illness nonprofit called the Foundation for Hope. I set the fundraising goal for $730 because Kaleb’s birthday is 7/30.
Once this fundraising goal is met I am going to shave my head. This is the least I can do for the cause. Without Kaleb I wouldn’t be the person I am today. Funds go directly to the Foundation of Hope. Any donation is appreciated.
