On the 7th of August, at the Googong Hogs Race Night, I will once again be shaving my flowing locks to raise some much needed funds for a local charity. This year I have chosen to raise funds for Win The Day, a charity which supports families fighting rare childhood cancers.
Win the Day aims to raise awareness and support the funding of research related to rare childhood cancers. They also aim to help and support families who are dealing with the diagnosis of rare childhood cancer. They provide assistance and support for these families in regards to their accommodation, meals, and emotional support throughout the process of treatment for their sick child. Specifically, they can provide families with:
- accommodation grants
- meal assistance
- ongoing treatment support
- welcome packs for hospital stays
- social connections
The more you know:
- Compared with adult cancers, childhood cancers are rare.
- Rare cancers are where the occurrence is less than 5% in diagnosis. They also have less chance of survivorship.
How you can help:
Any donation you can spare would be greatly appreciated, if you are struggling to settle on a number:
- $25 - Provides a family with 2 nutritious meals for the day
- $125 - Provides a family with 2 nutritious meals a day for a week
- $700 - Provides a family with 2 nutritious meals a day for a month
