Shaun's Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Shaun Shores, age 10, has been diagnosed with Multiple Craniosynostosis, Chiari Malformation, and 4th Cranial Nerve Palsy. This is a condition on which one or more of the fibrous sutures in an infant’s skull prematurely fuses together. There by changed the growth pattern of the skull, because the skull cannot expand perpendicular to the fuses suture. It compensates by growing more in the direction parallel to the closed sutures. Sometimes the resulting growth pattern provides the necessary space for the growing brain, but results in an abnormal head shape and abnormal facial features. In Shaun's case compensation did not effectively provide enough space for his growing brain. Craniosynostosis results in visual impairment and impairment of mental development. In Shaun's case the Multiple Craniosynostosis has caused the Chiari Malformation and the 4th Cranial Nerve Palsy. Shaun just got out of the hospital while the doctors tested the pressure in his brain and the pressures were okay, but it has leaded to him needing brain surgery within the next 30-60 days as well as having surgery on his eyes. My best friend Kim is a single mother of 3, has had to take several days off to run Shaun to St. Pete to get the medical attention that he needs. She is a great mother and does everything on her own for her children. She will be taking about a month off of work once Shaun has brain surgery. I created this account in hopes of alleviating the stress of doctor’s bills, insurance co-pays, lost wages, travel cost, etc., so she can solely focus on getting Shaun to the healthy little boy he wants and deserves to be. Every little bit counts and is greatly appreciated.
