My name is Shaun Anthony. For the last two and a half years, I have been living in a world completely different from the one I left behind in Los Angeles. I moved to Nairobi to pursue a calling, searching for the peace and purpose I felt God had placed on my life.

I found that purpose, but it came at a cost I never expected. Today, I am waving a white flag. My pride has been stripped away, and I am asking for your help to save my life.

I have spent the past almost 2 years living in a Kenyan village - a place that has fundamentally redefined my soul. As Americans, we oftentimes take for granted what we consider "small" things like water flowing when we turn on a faucet and lights flickering on with a switch. Here, those are luxuries.

I have witnessed things that have rocked me to my core: I’ve watched two-year-old children cry for hours from hunger and thirst, knowing the only way to get them clean water was to wait until another well was available because the local source was contaminated. I’ve seen a young mother give birth in a tiny room by candlelight, only to lose her life to a hemorrhage because she couldn't afford a hospital. I have lived in conditions where the smell of open sewage is a daily reality because of a lack of plumbing.

Yet, in the middle of this, I have seen the face of God. I have seen a level of community, resilience, and biblical strength in these people that is more powerful than anything I’ve ever known. They have taught me that nothing is too big for our Creator. They have kept my spirit alive while my body begins to fail.

While I have found spiritual strength, my physical body is breaking. For 9 months, I have been battling a severe H. pylori infection. In this environment, without the safety nets of the US medical system, it is a silent killer and unfortunately has claimed 3 other brothers' "American" lives since I've been here. I have lost 50 pounds. My blood pressure and heart rate are erratic, and the constant, pounding headaches have become debilitating. Because the medications I need are often imported and expensive, I have been unable to finish the treatment necessary to stop the infection. I am currently essentially homeless, living in quarters that are not conducive to healing, and I have sold everything I own, including my phone, just to survive another day.

I have tried to fight this alone. I’ve applied to over 600 remote jobs and launched businesses, but without a phone, stable housing, or even the least amount of finances - everything has been an uphill battle. I am stuck in a cycle I cannot break alone.

My light is dimming. I am a strong man, but I am at a point where I must admit that I am fighting for my life. I am asking for your assistance to help me secure:

Life-Saving Medical Care: To finally complete the treatment for this infection and get the nutrition needed to regain my weight.

Stable, Sanitary Housing: A safe place where I can recover without the risk of further infection.

Communication Tools: A basic phone and internet connection so I can get my businesses moving and return to work.

This is the most uncomfortable thing I have ever done. But I believe God has used this hardship to change the foundation of who I am for something much bigger that is coming. I have watched people much stronger than me survive situations I never thought possible, and they have given me the courage to ask for help.
