Hi everyone. 

Shaunna is an avid hiker and bicyclist who has always been very healthy and is only 43 years old, which is why we were all so shocked about what has happened these past few weeks. 

On December 18th, Shaunna suffered a stroke due to a blood clot in her brain, which required emergency surgery to be removed. On Christmas Eve, she had another blood clot in her arm which required another ER visit. These events, along with a past bad case of deep vein thrombosis in her leg a few years back, led to the doctors discovering that these clots were caused by a congenital heart defect, which may also require surgery. 

While her brain surgery went well, Shaunna was left with expressive aphasia which will require a lot of speech therapy, as well as loss of function of short term memory. Not only will all of these medical bills be a huge burden on the Gyorki family, but her husband Jim had to have two spinal surgeries two years ago with complications that left him disabled. 

Any donations would be immensely helpful towards medical bills and also for the loss of income from Shaunna being indefinitely unable to continue working at the Department of Aging, where she cooked meals on wheels and taught classes and activities for senior citizens. Shaunna has always cared so much about others and we hope that some of that good karma may be returned.
