Shaune McFarlane Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Shaune Lee McFarlane, who passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the age of 50.

Shaune was born in Elkhorn, Manitoba on June 6th, 1974, the second son of the late Agatha and Howard McFarlane. He was also predeceased by his half-brother Donovan Venn.

Shaune is lovingly remembered by his wife Angela Kay Coleman and stepdaughter Katelyn Dale Wiebe, as well as his two grown children, Jordan and Paige and their mother Brenda Zysk. Shaune loved his children and wanted the best for them.

He is also survived by his oldest brother David James McFarlane (wife Julie) and their children Jonah, Caleb, Anna, and Silas, along with their spouses and children; his devoted and supportive sister Mary Lynn Hiebert and her children Arion and Rosie along with her husband Bob and his children, Mike, Travis and Amanda. He will also be dearly missed by his younger half-siblings: Mike McFarlane, Tasha McFarlane, Sandrina Chartrand, and Douglas McFarlane, along with their families.

Shaune spent his early years in the Manitoba communities of Erickson, Austin, and MacGregor, graduating from MacGregor Collegiate in 1992. From Grade 4 in MacGregor Shaune formed strong, bonds with his older brother David and close friends Mark and Wayne. Together they shared a childhood filled with good memories, mischief kept mostly in check, and a sense of belonging rooted in church, school and community.

Shaune was naturally athletic and full of energy, often taking chances that made him stand out. He was known for his speed and took great joy in beating his older brother in races. His academic strength and curiosity led him to the University of Winnipeg where he earned a Bachelor of Science in the field of Chemistry and then a Masters and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Alberta- all remarkable achievements that spoke to both his intelligence and work ethic.

He spent many years as an instructor at the University of Manitoba for their International College of Manitoba and at the Canadian Mennonite University in the chemistry department where he was respected and appreciated by students and colleagues alike. During these years, Shaune and Angela also shared a love for camping and planning numerous outdoor excursions with the children and running small businesses together, finding joy in both work and adventure.

Last year Shaune took a break from teaching and traveled to Langley, BC, where he worked with his brother’s company before eventually settling in Estevan, Saskatchewan to restart his career as a chemist.

In the last year, Shaune began facing challenges, brought on by a number of difficult life circumstances which were rooted in the previous 4 years. He was blessed to live close to his sister Mary who encouraged him through the tough moments. Despite these struggles, he remained a man of heart, intelligence, and passion for the people in his life.

Shaune will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy of brilliance, adventure, and kindness lives on in those he touched.

A future announcement will be made regarding a service to celebrate Shaune’s life that will take place in Gladstone, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations in Shaune’s memory can be made to Clarke’s Funeral Home, to help assist with the funeral costs.

Service and celebration of life is still pending.

All funds collected will be going to cover all funeral expenses.

Thank you to everyone one who will be supporting our family in this time of sorrow.
