Shaun Dodson Kidney Transplant Fund
Shaun and Lacey Dodson are a wonderful couple that are high school sweethearts. They have been married for 20 years and have a beautiful 7 year old daughter named Paycen. Shaun is employed with Mission Creek Resources and Lacey works at Southern Arkansas University, both in Magnolia, AR. Shaun is Fire Chief for the Bussey-Sharman VFD and is also President for the Columbia County FireFighters Association.
Shaun was diagnosed with kidney disease several years ago and was told that one day he would possibly need a new kidney. Unlike many others, Shaun only has one functioning kidney. The time came April 2019 where his kidney function level allowed him to be placed on the kidney transplant list where the average wait time is four to five years.
In December 2019 Lacey’s uncle, David Brazzel stepped up and offered to be tested to see if he was a match. The Lord knew what he was doing when he placed David in their family years ago because when the test results came back, David was 100% match for Shaun.
Now the real journey begins. Shaun and David will have surgery on March 13th in Dallas at Methodist Dallas, The Transplant Institute. Shaun will have to be in Dallas earlier that week for more testing to prepare for the transplant. After surgery he will stay in the hospital for one week and then will be discharged. David will be considered outpatient for his part of the surgery and only need to stay in Dallas a week post surgery to make sure he is doing well. Shaun’s stay is quite a bit longer as he will need to stay close to the hospital for at least 8 weeks. In those weeks he will make many trips to a post transplant clinic where they will run continuous tests and blood work to assure the new kidney is working properly.
Shaun will be off work for 3-4 months and Lacey will be making many trips to and from Dallas to work and care for their daughter. Even with insurance the expenses that this family will endure are significant: lodging, food, gas, and just their normal monthly bills. All money raised for this beautiful family will go towards those expenses and any expenses coming their way after they get settled back in at home.
Shaun is very well known in his community for his selfless service to others on a daily basis. He puts in countless hours at the fire department making sure the fire trucks are ready to go at the first call with an emergency. He not only is a firefighter but a great friend. He has been there for me countless times when I have called always with a yes ma’am or let me figure this out.
Shaun and Lacey are overwhelmed with the financial worry of this journey they are about to embark upon but with faith in God and our communities, I would like to be able to tell them, Don’t worry we got you.
If you can, please help support this loving family. Let’s show them the same love and support they show their community each and everyday. If you are unable to contribute please take a moment to send them love and prayers. Pray for peace, pray for calmness, and pray for healing most of all.
To each one of you, Shaun, Lacey, & Paycen would like to thank you for all of your support. It’s hard to express the appreciation that they feel for you all.
Shaun will make this long journey with family and friends by his side supporting him in every way possible.
