Shaun was unexpectedly hospitalized on March 23, 2025, in Montreal due to complications from Crohn’s disease. He was extremely weak, with very low hemoglobin levels, and needed a blood transfusion. Since then, he has been focused on healing and rebuilding his strength. While he’s making progress, he remains in the hospital, and we are hopeful he’ll be discharged soon, subject to some medical test results. However, it’s still uncertain when he’ll be able to return to work.

Shaun started a new job in January 2025 and had been working hard to establish himself in Montreal. Prior to that, after leaving McGill University in April 2024, he was working part-time while actively searching for full-time employment. Although the part-time work was helpful, it wasn’t enough to cover his full living expenses. While Shaun has received some support from loved ones, the current situation has made things even more challenging.

Now, with no income while he’s off and no sick pay from his new job, Shaun is in a tough financial position. Unfortunately, he is likely ineligible for Employment Insurance (EI) sick benefits, as he hasn't worked enough hours to qualify.
