It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Major Michael Shaughnessy, devoted husband to Jennifer (Zielonko) Shaughnessy, and father to Kate (6), Michael (4) and John (1). He was baptized into the hope of Christ’s resurrection on July 21 after a battle with NK T-Cell Lymphoma and resulting complications.
Mike gave over 5 years of service to our country in the US Army as a Combat Engineer. From there, he took on various roles at the Department of Defense Combat Support Agency. Mike recently made the promotion list for Lieutenant Colonel. His dedication and this family’s sacrifices through multiple deployments have been nothing short of admirable. For that we are grateful.
Although a storied career is a lot to be proud of, the greatest legacy that Michael leaves behind are his three children. The sad void that is felt by Jen, Kate, Michael and John is something beyond words, and something that will last for the rest of their lives.
The family is asking for donations to help support Kate, Michael and John throughout their lives. This support will help take a big burden off of Jen as she grapples with the reality of parenting these three amazing children without her husband. Once they are able to set up an official trust for Kate, Michael and John, the funds will be transferred to the trust.
We loved him in life and we can honor him in death through our support to do for his family what he no longer can.
