Support Shashi's Journey to Recovery

Dear Friends & Community,

Shashi, a dedicated student always at the top of his class, pursuing his MBA at Saint Leo University near Tampa, Florida had dreams of academic success and building a life in the USA. Unfortunately, his aspirations were abruptly halted and we are reaching out to you to help him find some light.

2023 has been one of the most challenging years for Shashi. Losing his father in January 2023 to an accident to which he could not even go back for the funeral rites due to his expired passport with the passport authorities pending renewal after the December holidays. His fate took a miserable turn as he was diagnosed with "End Stage Kidney Disease" in which both his kidneys have failed as a result of asymptomatic high blood pressure. He would need to be on dialysis for the rest of his life with little hope of finding a donor in this foreign land. As if that wasn't challenging enough, Shashi's journey took an even more unforeseen turn in November 2023 when he suffered a haemorrhagic stroke due to hypertension, leading to a 12mm shift of his brain, necessitating decompressive craniectomy (brain surgery) to address bleeding and limit the damage to his brain. His right side skull flap had to be removed and refrigerated, leaving him paralysed on the left side of his body. After weeks of hospitalisation in the ICU wards, Shashi is currently undergoing rehabilitation at Brooks Rehabilitation in Jacksonville, FL, having arrived just two days before Christmas in hopes of getting his life back on track.

We are reaching out to our community, family & friends for support. Shashi urgently needs our collective assistance to alleviate the financial burden associated with his recovery. If all goes well, the plan is to replace his skull in March 2024, but, the road to recovery is long. The doctors are unsure if and when he can regain his normal mental and physical functions again, but they are hopeful his youth will see him through these challenges and support his journey to recovery.
