Sharty Fundraising

Sharty has been over a year in the making. From its beginnings last Spring, it has continually evolved through revisions, rewrites, and readings. It took to the stage for the first time in the Fall as a staged reading. Now, it is ready for something greater. We at Untitled Theatre Company are thrilled to announce Sharty's official debut on May 19, 20, and 21 at Macgowan 1330. The show is 100% free to attend and open to all. Tickets will be available starting the first week of May.

However, to make this play happen, we need YOUR support. We hope to raise $1000-$1500 to achieve our ultimate vision. Your donations, however big or small, will be massively appreciated. They will go towards funding our lighting, sound, costumes, set, and props to ensure that we do this play justice.

But what is Sharty anyways?

Sharty follows the story of a socially isolated college freshman––Douglass––who is struggling to find a place on campus where he belongs. After months of failure, we find him on an evening like any other, playing music while taking a shower in the communal dorm bathroom. But, for the unsuspecting Douglass, everything is about to change. As chance would have it, Brett––the leader of a group of tuxedo-wearing, frisbee-playing, shower-partying boys––is in the adjacent shower stall. And, not only that, he takes a liking to Douglass' tunes and introduces himself and the boys. For the first time in his college life, Douglass is presented with the opportunity to be part of a group where he could belong. But, the question remains, is there a place for him there?

Sharty is a play about male friendships, social hierarchy, vulnerability, insecurity, and belonging. It is also a play about showering in tuxedos, spiritual connections to Pitbull, eating cigarettes, and the hunt for the mysterious "Loud Shit Guy." If you'd like to see how this all comes together, I can't wait for you to come and see it.

Untitled Theatre Company is a student theatre company here at UCLA that focuses on producing new work by active students. As a company, we are dedicated to bringing excellent, accessible, original plays to our audiences and providing a platform for student playwrights to grow and develop their work. We are 100% student-run and operated and our productions provide opportunities for student directors, designers, producers, and actors to build experience and experiment artistically.
