Sharon's Kidney Transplant Fundraiser
Donation protected
On February 2, 2018, I was sent to the ER. Some labwork came back showing that my hemaglobin levels were down to 5.4. (normal is about 14) The staff were amazed that I was able to hold my head up. After additional testing, it was discovered that I was in end stage renal failure. I received 3 units of blood, and was subjected to a battery of tests including a CT guided kidney biopsy. The biopsy revealed that I was born with an antibody which at some point not only attacked whatever virus I had, it also attacked my kidneys. Over time my kidney function diminished to the point I needed to go on dialysis.
Luckily, I have been approved for transplant! Tom will be donating via the Paired Kidney Donation program. https://unos.org/transplant/kidney-paired-donation/
My surgery will be taking place on October 29th and Tom's on October 30th. I'll be out of work about 8 weeks, and Tom for about two.
