After 33 years at CGS, Sharon will retire at the end of the Term 2 holidays. A passionate educator and musician, Sharon joined CGS in 1992 as the Malvern Campus Head of Music, and was appointed School Head of Music in 1999.
While Sharon will receive an official retirement gift and acknowledgement from the School, this is a separate and special gift from the Music Department — a personal gesture from current and former music staff. We invite you to contribute towards a gift to be presented to Sharon at the end-of-year music staff Christmas function, along with your personal message to be included in a keepsake book.
Under Sharon’s leadership as Director of Music, the School's music program consisting of more than 80 specialist music staff, has grown into a preeminent music education program in Australia. Responsible for overseeing all aspects of our music program, Sharon has significantly contributed to the growth of the Music Department which has seen the introduction of instrumental programs; a Kodaly developmental and sequential music program in the Junior Schools; an exceptional music performance scholarship program; and, an extensive concert and performance calendar.
Sharon has been responsible for initiating and delivering many outstanding opportunities beyond the classroom for our students. These include leading over twenty interstate music tours and several international music tours to the United Kingdom, Europe, New Zealand, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.
During her tenure Sharon significantly raised the profile of CGS Music both within and beyond the School. She forged a vibrant and active Friends of Music parent support group, and has been the key architect in hosting many music education summer schools, music camps, music conferences and music charity organisations at our school.
Sharon’s driver in all that she does is to provide students with the best possible music learning experience that our School can offer. There are countless students, parents, staff, and Grammarians who will have known and benefitted from Sharon’s commitment, dedication, professionalism, and kindness.
