Hey everyone, my name is Jena. Most of you know me, but for those who don’t, I want to tell you about my sister, Sharon Lachowicz.

A few months ago, Sharon was diagnosed with Stage 3 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (breast cancer). At that stage, the 5-year survival rate was around 40%, but with aggressive treatment and surgery, her prognosis looked more positive.

Unfortunately, as of Wednesday Oct 1st Sharon has officially been diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. The cancer has spread to her skin, lymph nodes, bones, and spine. I don’t even know how to say this, but her prognosis is now terminal. Sharon will continue aggressive chemotherapy for as long as her body and spirit can handle, in the hope of prolonging her life.

If you know my sister, you know she would never ask for anything—but she would be the first to help anyone in need. About a year ago, she moved to Florida for a more peaceful life by the water with her three children: Ryan, Declan, and Payton. Many of you know that Payton has Down syndrome, and while she is absolutely amazing, her extra chromosome also means she needs extra care. Sharon does everything she can to give her children the best life possible.

Now, with this devastating diagnosis, Sharon is facing aggressive treatments, countless doctor’s appointments, overwhelming medical bills, and, most of all, the physical and emotional toll of this battle. On top of that, she still needs to keep a roof over their heads, food on the table, transportation for chemo days, and all the necessities of daily life. With her inability to work, this is simply too much for her to handle alone.

We don’t know how much time Sharon has left, but I do know this: I want her to spend it focused on her children and her health, not on financial stress. If there’s anything I can do, it’s to try to ease that burden.

But if there’s one thing I know, it’s that Sharon is a fighter. She will fight like hell to stay with us as long as she can, and I know she will be deeply grateful for every bit of support.
