Sharon’s Story
Mom was diagnosed with Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer in October of 2006. After being told by two different doctors that "she had less than 3 months to live" and "to get her affairs in order," she chose to fight. She was fortunate to find Dr. Ben Chue who provided her and our family the HOPE that we were in desperate need of. Over the next 13 1/2 years, she was on multiple chemotherapy regimens and clinical trials. Because of Dr. Chue's innovative treatment methods Mom had a great quality of life and was able to do many of the things she had enjoyed prior to being diagnosed. She was also blessed to have seen two important milestones: her grandson Skylar graduate high school and her granddaughter Savannah get married.
Providing HOPE
Since first diagnosis and throughout Mom’s 13 1/2 year battle, she has served as beacon of hope for others fighting all forms of cancer. She spent much of her free time visiting with patients and talking over the phone with the newly diagnosed. Her online journey touched and inspired thousands of lives around the globe. She was often introduced to other cancer survivors and families as an ambassador for HOPE. Even in the last few months of her life Mom continued to reach out to help others. Data collected from her participation in multiple clinical trials, genetic tests, and experimental regimens has helped advance treatment options for those facing a pancreatic cancer diagnosis.
Keeping Her Legacy of Hope Alive
The creation of this Fund is the first step in the development of the Sharon Hanson Believe In Hope Foundation which we plan to launch within the next 2-3 months. It’s mission will be to provide much needed help to cancer patients and their families who have been given little or no hope. The primary focus will be the offering of financial assistance, patient and caregiver navigation, and educational resources. Funding for both scientific and clinical research will also be goals of this foundation.
Thank You
Matt, Kim, Savannah, Skylar, Stacy, John, Tom and Siggy want to thank you for your support during this difficult time and for helping us share our Mom’s and Grandma’s story of HOPE with others.
