Sharon Ellsworth battled Breast Cancer for more than 5 years. Webster’s dictionary defines battle as “fight or struggle tenaciously to achieve or resist something”. Sharon definitely battled breast cancer, she fought as hard as she could to resist this disease. She fought with every ounce of her being, she fought with strength, courage, compassion and faith. When Sharon was first diagnosed she never once asked, ‘why me?” instead she would ask me “why not me?” Everyone that knew Sharon knows she embraced this as a journey, her journey, this would be her story. She would tell people she was grateful, Breast Cancer allowed her to see the goodness in people, how kind and caring people could be and she saw her family grow closer. It also strengthened her faith in God, another thing she was grateful for.
Everyone that knew Sharon watched her as this journey progressed, good days and bad days, no matter what the poison of chemotherapy did to her, she would smile, a light shining from the inside out.
Sharon’s loss will be felt by many of us for many many years, but nothing like the loss that will be felt by her family. Sharon’s parents' thoughts of retirement changed dramatically as they cared for their daughter, Sharon’s sister lost her best friend, her rock and Sharon’s children, Sarah, Brett and Jocelyn lost their beacon, their guiding light just at the beginning of their adult lives, important firsts that will be missed.
Unfortunately this journey impacts people financially. Cancer and treatments come with many medical costs. So many people have asked “how can we help?”, nothing will make this easier, but maybe easing the financial burden will help ease some pain. If anyone wants to help please consider donating to this Sharon Ellsworth GoFundMe.
