Sharon Malizia Borys

On August 13th 2020 Sharon Borys was sitting in her kitchen giving herself a breathing treatment due to her COPD and Lung Cancer when she had a sneezing fit and with the last sneeze fell to her knees in excruciating pain with a headache. She crawled to the phone to call downstairs to her son for help. He and her husband helped her to the bedroom. She started vomiting and could barely move. They called 911 and at the hospital they did a CT Scan and found out that she had a ruptured brain aneurysm.
The Neurologist said that she actually had multiple aneurysms and at this point they needed to go into surgery to try to handle the main blister that was bleeding. They went in with no success. They also had to put her in an induced coma so her brain could have time to heal. A second surgery was a fail as well. He could not get to the aneurysm due to the swelling and blood vessels. They went in a third time and we were told that he was going to try to coil the main blister that was bleeding. He was able to coil the aneurysm. They were still waiting to take her out of the induced coma due to brain swelling.
She came out of the coma and for two days she was able to talk to us on the phone and explain exactly what happened to her. She was able to tell us about paperwork and was completely coherent.
We were told there was a possibility for Vasospasms and a stroke following this coil, and that the next 10 days were crucial. After two days she was put back into an induced coma due to Vasospasms. She did indeed have many Vasospasms and also a major stroke. She was in the ICU for a month and a half. At one point she failed every brain activity test she was given and we thought she might be brain dead. We prepared for the worst. When they took her out of the coma she wasn’t very responsive and we knew we had a very long road ahead of us.
After two months of being at Illinois Masonic she was transferred to a Skilled Nursing Facility, paralyzed on the right side and unable to speak. She did have her Trach removed and is breathing on her own, which is amazing. She has gone through intensive therapy and they have been working with her to strengthen her left and right side. They have also been helping her with speaking a bit. She is still on a feeding tube.
She was in the Skilled Nursing Facility for three months. As many of you know Medicare only covers one hundred days in a Skilled Nursing Facility. Her one hundred days are up and she will be coming home December 21st.
We were told that she will need a Nurse, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist and a Speech Therapist. She cannot be left alone for any amount of time.
We are setting up this Go Fund Me account to help with all of the medical expenses, feeding pump nutrition, medication, and all of the household expenses that are required to keep her alive and improving. She has a very long road ahead of her. Please help us support her. Every little bit helps.
