Aloha Family, Friends, 808Hui Ohana, and anyone with a hearts desire to read and help.
This fundraiser has been created in support of the Wilson Ohana as their beloved matriarch - wife, mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, friend - Sharnell Wilson, unexpectedly and tragically just passed on.
On Monday morning, June 21st, Sharnell was found on the ground by her daughter Alayah on the verge of unconsciousness. Alayah immediately called for Dad who rushed down the stairs, held his wife in his arms, and called for their eldest son to immediately call 911. Paramedics rushed her to the ER at Queens West O'ahu where they found her blood pressure to be extremely high and the stroke team began to actively work on her. After various procedures and methods were performed to try and stabilize her, she fell into a coma. She suffered from severe bleeding in the brain and extensive brain damage with no signs of activity.
On Wednesday, June 23rd, after running multiple unsuccessful tests on her she was declared "brain dead" in the earlier afternoon. Her heart however, was still faintly beating, even fighting after being taken off of life support slightly before 8pm. Shortly thereafter, she took her last and final breath in this world surrounded with love by her family and friends over a video call (due to COVID guidelines).
Sharnell (40 years old) left in love her 4 beautiful young children - Hezekiah (15), Alayah (10), Zhai (7) Xavier (4), and her husband, Jason Chai Wilson. She and Chai were high school sweethearts and have been together for over 23 years with 17 of that being married. She is a Kohala High School Class of 1999 graduate, a 2004 Alumni of Colorado Mesa University, and the ultimate Do-It-All woman as a wife, mother, homeschool teacher, business owner, daughter, sister, friend, active Christian and dedicated community member.
She was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawai'i on the Northern tip in Kohala. Up until just a few weeks ago, she and the family lived on the East side of the island for the last few years in Mountain View. They recently relocated to West O'ahu where she would've maintained her selfless position as the biggest supporter of her husband and children's dreams and pursuits!
For the 2019 Merrie Monarch Festival, Chai and Sharnell were honored and selected as the mo'i kane (king) and mo'i wahine (queen) of that years festivities, which as of today, stands as the last time the esteemed festival was held. Prior to their most recent move, Chai had been in the mortgage lending industry for several years before leaving and now focusing on their family businesses. Over the past year with the impact on sports due to COVID, Chai has been one of the greatest advocates of the #SafeSports808 movement, with a dedicated target in making a difference in Hawai'i Youth today through the safe re-opening of Sports. Chai and Sharnell played major roles in their children's sports careers, as well as countless others, serving as coaches, cheerleaders, team organizers, sponsors and so much more for many years and on many levels.
Chai and Sharnell are the creators, owners, and entire operation behind the popular Hawai'i based clothing brand - 808Hui which they founded on values centered on Faith and Family. Following in his parents footsteps, their eldest son Hezekiah, created his own brand of athletic wear rooted on these same values - Godfidence Athletics, which appeals to youth and adults alike. Hezekiah's brand is focused on the knowledge that "God is in control". Both companies are 100% family owned and operated and is their primary lines of business at this time.
Sharnell's legacy is rooted and established in Faith in God. She embodied kindness, faithfulness and love. She would always emphasize the belief that "God has a plan and is in control". May we all strive to remember that, be convicted of that, and live by that just as she did.
All funds donated will be handled by family friend, Denni Keyes and will go directly to the Wilson family to help with end of life expenses, incidentals, and economic support as they grieve and try to navigate life after such a devastating loss.
