#SAYHERNAME – Sharmel Edwards.

In April of 2012 my family’s life changed forever. We got the news that my mom, Sharmel was wrongfully gunned down by 5 LVMPD officers. She was shot more than 20 times. 130 something pounds. She stood 5’4”. This is something typically the whole country would know/hear about especially during the climate our country is in regarding the injustices black people face, but the way the city of Las Vegas is set up everything got swept up under the rug. She was a special, strong, survivor of many obstacles and hardships life through at her. A loving, devoted mother, sister and granddaughter. She was also the most passionate educator. Her laughter and smile lit rooms, her humor was so admirable. She was superwoman to my sister and I. My moms younger sister, my aunt took care of everything after my mom passed away. She covered rent. Bills. And funeral expenses. My mom was 49 at the time. For years (if you knew her you know this!)she wanted to go to the Caribbean for her 50th birthday. Her and my aunt were supposed to go, but they never got the chance to. Help us get her justice and help put her ashes in the Caribbean by the time her 60th bday comes back around. She deserves this peace. God bless
