Sharkey Memorial Education Fund
Donation protected
Richard J. Sharkey passed away suddenly in a car accident on December 4, 2018. This memorial fundraiser has been started to help with his children's college education. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 20 years, Ann Marie, his son, Alexander and daughter, Jessica.
Richard Sharkey was a loving and supportive father. No matter what the weather, you could always find him on the sidelines or poolside taking pictures and cheering. Richard liked to be involved in his children's activities. For many years, he volunteered as an assistant youth baseball coach. He supported his son’s theater interests and lent his construction expertise to various high school theater productions, in helping his son design and build set pieces in their driveway. Richard sparked his son's passion for technical design, which he is currently studying in college along with psychology.
Richard shared his love for fishing, skiing, model rockets, scuba diving, and especially sailing with all he knew. He considered the Hoofer's Sailing Club at the University of Wisconsin-Madison a second home where he found many life-long friends and shared many memories. He got his daughter excited about sailing during their week long cruise on the Chesapeake Bay. Growing up in Wisconsin, Richard was an unwavering Green Bay Packers fan. On Thursday nights he could be found playing Trivia at a local eatery with his family. He brought happiness and wisdom to all who knew him. There will be a noticeable void in his absence.
As many family and friends have expressed interest on how to help, this memorial college fund has been created to accept donations in support of Richard Sharkey's children's education. He was very proud of his children's accomplishments, especially in academics, and he would have wanted his children to have access to the best education possible.
