Sharita’s Transplant Journey: A New Chance at Life

My name is AJ Holmes, and I want to share the story of my wife, Sharita Holmes — a strong, loving mother of three, and now a kidney transplant recipient.

For years, I watched Sharita battle a genetic kidney disease that slowly stole her energy, her strength, and her ability to do the every day things she loved. We lived each day under the weight of exhaustion, knowing that without a kidney transplant, her future will remain uncertain. Because Sharita’s condition is inherited, many of her close family members weren’t eligible to donate. It was an isolating and heartbreaking experience to feel so close to help and yet so far away.

Then by the grace of God, the call came! A match had been found! That kidney gave us back more than just her health. It gave us hope, time, and a second chance at a life together as a family.

But the journey doesn’t stop at surgery. Sharita now faces a long road of follow-up care, expenses anti-rejection medications, travel to specialists, and more. Many of these costs aren’t fully covered by insurance, but they’re essential to keeping her healthy and with us.
