Sharing Kindness With Carolyn and Her Family

Donation protected

This is my amazing cousin Carolyn and her beautiful family. Carolyn was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer in October of 2017.
Unfortunately, Carolyn and her family are all too familiar with this journey.  Shortly after being diagnosed, her mother passed away from Glioblastoma, a rare brain cancer. Since then, Carolyn has done aggressive treatment with chemotherapy but due to her current medical condition it was not recommended for her to continue with it at this time.

Just recently, Carolyn and her family had planned to go to Hawaii but two weeks leading up to their trip she had difficulty breathing,
fatigue, and mild pain. She was urged by her family to follow up with her doctor. During her visit, she found out that the tumor in her lungs grew and was immediately admitted for pulmonary edema (excessive fluid in her lungs) and extreme low levels of oxygen. She was told she had two options - drain the fluid from her lungs but if that didn't work she would need surgery (with a small chance of survival). That morning she had a liter of fluid removed from her left lung and was put on oxygen.  She has been in the hospital for over two weeks and after much discussion, she will be discharged to in-home hospice care next week.  She continues to work with her medical providers on possible next steps and is hopeful that she can get back into treatment but in the meantime is happy to go home where she can be with her family.

It has been a whirlwind of emotions for Carolyn, her family, and close friends.  Carolyn is and has always been a fighter.   She is hopeful and holds on to her faith.  She believes in miracles.  Let us do all that we can to support her, her husband Jeff, their 11 year old daughter Leena, and 5 year old son Levi. Both Carolyn and Jeff work at the Veterans Administration in San Francisco but are on family leave
indeterminately. We know that times have been difficult with the pandemic, but anything would be greatly appreciated and would help
them tremendously. The donations will help with hospital and medical bills, and any additional care/treatment she and her family will need. We know they have a long road ahead of them and want to support them in any way we can.

Our goal is for Carolyn to focus on herself, her care, and to give her time with her family where she does not need to worry about any
financial burdens. Additionally, we ask that you keep Carolyn, Jeff, Leena, and Levi in your thoughts and prayers.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!
