Friends and Family, Here is an update on Jody's condition. Recently, unfortunately, Jody's been in a lot of pain. When I went to see her over Christmas, she had really severe headaches, nausea and was vomiting. This can commonly be a side effect from chemotherapy but no matter the strength of the prescription meds, the headache pain wouldn't go away. In addition, she was not eating much at all due to the vomiting and nausea. Finally, after a couple weeks of ER visits, they did an MRI and determined that there was a lesion in her brain that was causing the pain because the cancer had spread. For the past 2 weeks she has been hospitalized and last week she had a shunt surgically inserted in her brain to help relieve some of the pressure. As of today, she is still in the hospital and being closely monitored. She will soon start radiation treatment followed by chemo but she needs to get her headaches under control first. She is eating a little more and the pain is slightly less, but she has yet to be discharged. While these circumstances have been been significantly upended her and Fletcher's lives, the positive news is that the community at the International School of Dusselldorf and the Frankfurt International School have truly rallied to help Jody. A number of people have been bringing meals to Fletcher, have helped to care for her dog, Puffin, and have assisted her with her numerous hospital appointments. She can't do this alone and we are incredibly thankful for the support of these communities. In the near future, we are hoping she can get back home soon with Fletcher and do the things she normally likes to enjoy. As you all know, being independent means everything to Jody so I hope and pray that she can get back to that as soon as possible. Going forward, I will be posting updates on her status and we reopened her Gofundme page (see link below) if you'd like to contribute. In the mean time, here are couple pics of Fletcher's recent visit to the hospital with mom.
