Sophos Montessori School community - each child a future leader
Meet Our Leaders
A Message from Scott Gervais, Co-Founder and Director (U.S.)
"My name is Scott Gervais. I'm the Co-Founder and Director of Sophos Montessori School. Though I live in the U.S., I visit Sophos regularly and stay in daily contact with my counterpart and friend, Owusu Enock.
Owusu is the heart of Sophos. At just 25, he was already a small business owner with a bold vision: to build a school that creates future leaders, tradesmen, and philanthropists—starting with a single classroom in a building so worn down that when it rained outside, it rained inside.
But the conditions didn't stop him. He brought in passionate teachers and eager students. When Owusu and I connected, I was immediately inspired by his commitment and vision. I knew Sophos was worth supporting.
In just two years, we've grown from 10 students to over 70, and we've trained and certified two female teachers in Montessori methods who now mentor others. We've repaired our buildings and continue to grow—offering what we believe is the best education in the area, at the lowest tuition.
But to keep growing and reaching more children, we need partners. We invite you to join our mission—whether through visiting, volunteering, partnering as a school, or offering donations or expertise.
We'd love to welcome you to the Sophos community. Thank you for your time, your prayers, and your support.”

Owusu speaks on his vision & motivation
A Message from Owusu Ansah Enock, Co-Founder and Superintendent (Ghana)
"Hello from Sophos Montessori School in Ghana. My name is Owusu Ansah Enock. I'm the Co-Founder and Superintendent of Sophos. I'm speaking to you today to explain what we do here, our vision for the future, and how you can help make a better future for our children, community, and Ghana! Children are our future!
Our vision: The vision of Sophos is very clear. We aspire to create a school where ALL children are accepted. We believe that no child should be without a proper education, regardless of race, sex, religion, or financial status. All our students are fed, educated, and clothed. They are taught proper hygiene, trades, and a proper Montessori education. We are working towards a special blended curriculum that will prepare our students for future schooling, business, trades, and world leadership.
In the future, we will build our school with a kitchen, public well, classrooms, public library, and accommodations for volunteers, teachers, and students who are unable to obtain daily transportation to school. Our future school will also have an area where the school and community can barter and sell produce and handmade products. This will help us to become a self-supportive school.
What we do: We are committed to providing life skills that many people take for granted. We recently built a latrine. This is something that most schools and households are lacking. We have provided a hand washing station and cafeteria. Our students are involved in absolutely every project, in one way or another. Our garden produces flowers and vegetables. We hope to build an apiary in February 2026. The honey and propolis that the bees produce will be used, sold, and traded. We do all this, plus provide a blended educational experience that will last a lifetime.
What you can do to help: We are not asking for handouts to support the children of Bosuso Ghana. What we're proposing is a partnership in our journey to create a self-supportive school that will be a shining example to the world of what we can accomplish when we all work together.
We are asking for monetary donations, training materials, teacher training, and friendship. Something as small as a supportive message to our children will help bridge the gap between our nations.
We would like to create a website where we can share our journey with the world. So, if there are any website designers out there, we could use your help as well.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Your generous donations will not just help our students. It will create a lasting impression of the good in the world.”

The Dream
In Ghana, there's a school with an extraordinary vision. Sophos Montessori School doesn't just want to educate children—they want to become the best school in Ghana, transforming not just individual lives but an entire community.
Led by a passionate team of educators who believe every child deserves respect and excellence, Sophos Montessori School is pioneering the Montessori method in Ghana. But they need your help to make this dream a reality.
Students tending to the environment
The Challenge
Right now, dedicated teachers are undergoing intensive training to implement the Montessori approach—a complete transformation in how they view and nurture children. The school struggles to secure basic materials that make this child-centered education possible.
Students learning practical life skills through hands-on activities
You can see the Montessori method already taking root - children engaged in focused work, learning through their hands, developing independence and concentration. But imagine what they could accomplish with proper materials and child-sized furniture designed for their success.
The school community, ready for action
Your Impact: Just $10 Can Change Everything
Think about it: How often do you spend $10 without thinking twice?
- A specialty coffee
- Snacks at the checkout
- A small impulse purchase online
Now imagine that same $10 contributing to something that will ripple through generations.
Our Goal: $15,000 to Grow a Montessori School & Transform Education
What Your Gift Provides:
- Essential Montessori materials that serve multiple children
- Child-sized furniture essential for learning
- Teacher training programs and materials
- Educational supplies and resources
- Infrastructure improvements for safe learning environments
The Full Picture: $15,000 will cover essential Montessori materials, child-appropriate furniture, and ongoing teacher support to establish this transformational educational model.
Students build concentration through practical life work
Why This Matters
When children are respected and educated well, they become empowered to change their communities. One well-educated child doesn't just transform their own life—they lift up siblings, parents, neighbors, and eventually their own children.
Students on a nature walk
This is how world peace begins: with children who are seen, heard, and given the tools to think critically and compassionately.
The Bigger Picture: Beyond Materials
While educational tools and training are crucial, a great school also needs safe spaces to learn.
- Reliable electricity for lighting and fans
- Clean water for drinking and hygiene
- Repairs and renovations to classrooms and storage
These infrastructure upgrades may not be glamorous—but they're essential. And every dollar you give helps make the environment more stable and dignified for learning.
A Special Call to Montessori Families
If you've ever benefited from Montessori education—if you've seen your child blossom with independence, confidence, and joy in learning—consider paying it forward. Your small gift can plant the seeds of that same transformation at Sophos Montessori School.
The Ripple Effect
Your contribution isn't just helping one child. It's:
- Training teachers who will educate hundreds of children over their careers
- Establishing a model that other schools in Ghana can follow
- Creating a generation of empowered young people who will transform their communities
- Building a legacy that will impact generations to come
- Students learning through practical work in their school garden
Not Your Only Giving
We know there are countless worthy causes competing for your attention. This doesn't have to be your primary charity or your largest gift. We're simply asking you to consider adding Sophos Montessori School to your occasional small acts of generosity.
The next time you're about to spend $10 on something small for yourself, consider that you can support these incredible children and educators for the same cost!
The Math That Makes Dreams Reality
1,500 people giving $10 = $15,000
That's it. If 1,500 people skip one coffee shop visit and give that money to Sophos Montessori School instead, we fully fund their transformation into Ghana's premier school.
Think about your network: If you share this with 10 friends, and they each share with 10 more, we're already at 100 people. Just 10 more rounds of sharing gets us to our goal.
