Share Love - Help Amy Wakeling's Cancer Journey

Any of you who have been touched by cancer know that oncology nurses are very special care givers. Amy Wakeling is one of those magnificent, compassionate, optimistic caregivers who is a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day.

For more than 30 years, she cares for patients and their families on every level. She looks out for you like you are a family member or close friend. I met Amy more than 10 years ago when I started working at UH. She was so kind from the very get go! She would teach me everything I needed to know about cancer. She would take time to explain processes, procedures, medicine, caregiving and so much more. It didn't end there. She would volunteer for every cancer event and show up to work. She would reach out to survivors and help those who just were starting their journey. She showed such love to everyone she met. I watched her connect people to the right doctor so many times. Or, she would reassure people that they were doing everything right. She gave hope in people's darkest moments.

But it was not just with patients, she was that kind to everyone she met. We would be walking the hospital headed to a meeting and she would bump into another nurse. When she walked away from him/her, she would say...that is one good nurse! I would want him/her to care for me! She lifted people up. Encouraged. Supported. Made them better.

But that was just the hospital. She did it so many times over for friends and family. Amy was the life of the party. She loved baking her Mom's recipes with her daughter Lauren. She would throw the best Christmas parties for family. She always found the perfect gift to give to people. She loved decorating for any holiday. She loved going to craft fairs, hanging out at Ohio State football games, going out to lunch with friends. She knew how to live life and taught others to do it too!

Amy and her beautiful family now need the support she gave to so many. While Amy is on her cancer journey and battling the final stages, her husband too has heart issues and has been hospitalized. They both were admitted to the hospital at the same time.  Amy has been in and out of surgery multiple times in the past few months. She is on her cancer journey and headed home to greet the Lord. She has been such a faithful servant.

She cared for so many for so long. She gave so much without taking anything. Now, she needs our care. I was hoping to show her husband, Tom, her beautiful daughter, Lauren and her granddaughter, Bella an outpouring of love that she gave so many.  The money will go for the mounting medical bills and groceries. Any donation would be so kind and helpful at this time. And, if you would, please pray for Amy, Tom, Lauren and Bella.

Thank you for all your care and support,
Katie
