Shanny’s Cataract Surgery

Hi guys! Allison, here. My poor baby sister, Shannon has been diagnosed with severe cataracts in both her eyes. She is only 23 years old.

She never complained about not being able to see until early December 2022. She was already severely nearsighted and she was never able to see without her glasses. When we noticed that she was taking her glasses off to see her phone and the TV, we knew something was wrong. We made her an appointment at the Optical Center where she always gets her glasses. They couldn't even get any readings on either one of her eyes. We were so scared! They referred us to a specialist who, after a 3 hour visit, determined that she was suffering from rapidly progressive cataracts in both eyes(the right eye is far worse). He then referred her to a surgeon who advised us that she needs surgery SOON. The surgery would certainly offer her some relief and restore some vision in both eyes. As of right now, she is legally BLIND. Her insurance will only cover the most basic option. She also suffers from astigmatism, so in order for her to have her vision restored, without glasses, the cost is $6000 per eye, out of pocket. If anyone deserves to have the best quality of life, it`s Shannon. She suffers from Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy. She also lost her sister last year to suicide.

Shannon is the light of our lives! Any who knows Miss Shanny could tell you, she the most genuine, kind-hearted soul. She has relentlessly battled so many obstacles throughout this life. I hoping we can help her overcome this as well. She is so scared, especially since our Mother lost her eye to Cancer a few years ago. We just want the best possible treatment for our girl.
