Shannon Elizabeth Corbett, former administrator (Director, Principal) and teacher in Los Angeles Unified School District passed away on March 21, 2016. Shannon was a daughter, wife and most importantly Shannon was the loving mother of two beautiful daughters Kylee and Mia.
Friends, family and the educational community knew her to be an educator committed to ensuring success for all of the students she served. As the administrator of Garvanza Elementary School she worked to ensure the school community focused on the vision of meeting every child's need and worked with staff, parents and students to maintain Garvanza’s certification as a School of Excellence. She had a passion for learning and inspiring the love for learning in both her students and her colleagues. Shannon mentored her fellow teachers and supported and encouraged others. As the principal she focused on students becoming passionate readers and writers, including establishing a library and reading garden.
A friend wrote “Shannon made you feel like you were the most important person, like you could achieve anything, like all things were possible... She encouraged others to “dream big” and create the school we wanted.”
We hope you will make a donation to a college fund to help Kylee and Mia on their road to “dreaming big!”
