Shannon Chapin and Brent Schultz

Shannon Chapin and Brent Schultz began dating four years ago and have been married one year. Six months into their marriage, Shannon was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer with no known point of origin. For the last six months, she’s undergone many different treatments to prolong her life and make sure she’s here to raise her boys.

Her stress and worry are confounded by the fact that she is in the middle of a battle for custody of her three boys. After four years of raising them, Brent is their father. They call him dad; he provides support, and he loves them. Should something happen to Shannon, Brent wants to continue to care for and raise the boys as the only father they’ve ever known.

Their biological father lives in Pennsylvania, and the boys would be traumatized if they had to move across the country and away from everything they’ve known, to live with someone they have chosen not to see. This is why it’s so important for Brent to obtain guardianship of them.

As medical and legal bills mount, the Chapin/Schultz family is asking for our help. We can alleviate the financial burden so Shannon can focus on getting well and keeping her family together. Her lawyer is in the process of securing guardianship for Brent, but the process is expensive, time-consuming and exhausting. Our goal with this GoFundMe is to help them so Shannon can rest her mind and body and focus on getting well.

This is a situation we could all find ourselves in at any time. Shannon and Brent love each other and their kids (including Brent’s two boys) and are doing everything possible to stay together.
