My name is Kelley and I’m fundraising for my friend Shannon so she can focus on spending time at the NICU with her beautiful baby Solana.
Beautiful baby Solana was born September 10th, 2021, at 25 weeks old. She was 1lb 12 oz,12.5 inches long, and came into this world a tiny little fighter.
After some initial stimulation by her Doctors, she started to breathe on her own. To their shock and amazement, she continued to do so for the first 11 days of her life.
On the twelfth day, she stopped breathing and was unable to recover. She was intubated to give her little lungs a break and is doing okay so far.
She started developing an infection, so she’s receiving antibiotics and is on a pain drip to keep her comfortable.
Shannon was ill throughout most of her pregnancy and was unable to work her usual hours.
She was admitted to the hospital when she started hemorrhaging on Saturday, August 28th, was discharged the following Saturday, and started having contractions the same night.
She was readmitted Tuesday, September 7th for hemorrhaging and preterm labor.
Friday morning, Solana’s heart rate dropped and the Doctors made the decision to deliver the baby. On the way to the OR, Shannon went into shock because she had a placental abruption, the baby’s heart stopped, so they immediately intubated Shannon and she had to have an emergent c-section. While she was in surgery, she started hemorrhaging again and we almost lost both of them.
As you can imagine, this has been devastating to her and her children. Mom and baby have a long road ahead of them. Shannon is still recovering and Solana’s medical team is doing everything they can for her but she’ll be in the NICU until the end of December.
Baby Solana is a level three NICU baby. She requires 24 hour around-the-clock care. When Shannon is not at the hospital she is at home taking care of her other two children. Which includes endless neurology and physical therapy appointments for her 12 year old son, Noah.
I’ve known Shannon for over 30 years. Underneath that rough exterior, she is one of the kindest and most loving people I have ever known. She’s always the first person to help out whether it’s a stranger, a friend, or an animal.
Shannon is taking care of her children mostly by herself. She will be unable to return to work until after the first few months of 2022.
She has very little family support. As her friends, we can help to relieve some of the financial burden.
