Shannins Cancer Fight & Update

On Sunday April 14th at the young age of 26 Shannin was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. Prior to all of this, Shannin for about a year now hasn’t been feeling well and just felt off like something was wrong. Having multiple tests and blood work done, her doctor dismissed all of her worries wanting to rule everything else out before jumping the gun to do any cancer screenings. Through some amazing family and friends Shannin was able to get a second opinion over the weekend of April 12th and was then diagnosed. On Saturday April 13th Shannin went under surgery to remove the cancer and once opened up the cancer had spread and was much bigger than they had anticipated. It had spread to her liver, ovaries and abdominal wall. They removed her right ovary that had a Krukenburg tumour, they removed part of her colon and reconnected it to remove the other tumour that was blocking her and some of Shannin’s abdominal wall to remove 13 lymph nodes. They haven’t touched her liver as it is a lot more covered than they thought. Once recovered from her most recent surgery, she started intense chemotherapy & immunotherapy trying to shrink down the liver cancer in hopes to have surgery to remove part of the tumour in her liver. Then Shannin would continue this same cycle with chemotherapy and surgery to shrink, control or with the hopes and end goal of being cancer free.

Shannin’s grandmother just recently passed away from this same cancer and her and her partner Cody Desroches have a long road of treatment and recovery ahead of them. Through this GoFund Me we are hoping to take some of the financial burden off of them as they navigate through this hard and trying time. Worrying about finances especially becoming first time home owners in 2023 is one of the last things that should be on their minds right now. Shannin and Cody are both strong, fearless, fighters and they won’t let this bump in the road stop them. Any donation big or small goes a long way when we all join forces together to help out two people who give so much to others and ask for nothing in return.

I have continued systemic chemotherapy & immunotherapy but unfortunately I had a severe reaction to one of my types of chemo, sending me into anaphylactic shock. That chemo is now removed and I’m on my immunotherapy & my chemo bottle (5FU), right now we’re doing a trial to see if my cancer is still going to respond to this, praying that it doesn’t spread with missing the one bag of chemotherapy

April 2025 update:

Unfortunately, we were hoping I was going to qualify for a clinical trial to receive a HAIP in my liver, but I do not qualify as my cancer has spread to my left ovary. They have declared me palliative with less than 3 years to live, but I refuse to believe it. I have had a meeting with an oncologist in Switzerland, and we have come up with another treatment plan that Canada does not offer. Unfortunately everything will be out of pocket for these expenses, but for the first time since being diagnosed April 2024, I feel like I have a fighting chance. With the support from everyone, it’s allowing me to get my testing done & fly to Switzerland for a chance to live.
