My name is Shanise, and I’m facing a chapter I never wanted to revisit. In 2023, I fought through invasive ductal carcinoma and celebrated remission by year’s end. Sadly, on October 17, 2025, I learned the cancer had returned as stage 2. I’ll be undergoing two surgeries—one in November and another in January—and will be out of work until at least March 2026. As someone who’s always been the one helping others, stepping out of my comfort zone to ask for help is humbling. But I know I need to let others who care lift me up, just as I’ve tried to lift them.

Most importantly, I want to be there for my three boys. I also want to honor a dear friend I recently lost to cancer—a friend who walked this journey with me the first time around and was my source of strength when I couldn’t share my worries with my family. His resilience taught me to take things one day at a time, and that’s what I’m doing now.
