Hi my name is Shane and I'm 44 years old husband and father. I've been married for 23 years and we have two children. On November 1, 2015, I had two major heart attacks. The doctors called these the "widow makers." About 92-98% of people having one of this type of heart attacks do not survive. And I had two of these. One was during the ambulance ride where they had to revive me with CPR. The other was in the hospital where I was shocked. Since then, I've been in the hospital three times with heart complications and procedures. These heart attacks have left major scar tissue and has permanently weakened my heart. My normal resting heart rate is now between 95 to 105 beats per minute. Normal resting rates is about 60 beats per minute. I have no more stamina, which causes me to lose my breath and tire easily. My body forces me to take at least two naps a day. I no longer drive by myself for fear of falling asleep while driving. I was also told by my cardiologist that I could walk, but no more exercising, because it could do more damage. I had lost about 75lbs before the heart attacks trying to get myself healthy and get off the diabetic medication.
I tried to go back to work on a part time basis, but ended up back in the hospital. This has turned our lives upside down. I was the sole bread winner and I am no longer able to work. And I can't provide for my family like I was able to do. My wife has a rare form of muscular dystrophy called Myotonic Dystrophy and is unable to work.
Since I'm no longer employed, I'm paying for the full price of COBRA health insurance. The monthly fee for this is $980.00 for just my coverage. We are struggling to pay every month. I cannot go without this health insurance due to all the costly medication that I have to take for the rest of my life. Most of the money raised will be going towards the monthly payment and the deductible of $1,500.00 that starts over in January 2017.
The remaining funds will be used for a Cricut machine, hydro dipping material, and Rtic cups. This is to make custom Rtic cups for some extra money to pay for month to month bills. Honestly, I'm not the type of person to sit around and do nothing. But I have to work at my own pace now. This is something I can do, and rest, when I need to. All this will help while waiting to find out if I'm approved for social security benefits. It's been three months and we have not heard anything.
I really do hate asking for help this way. My pride has to take a back seat to my family needs. This whole situation has made me humble and appreciative of what we do have in life. I am grateful that God has given me this second chance and would like to make the most of it.
If my goal is met, anyone that donated $100.00 or more, can receive a costumed Rtic cup of your choosing, if so desired. Once I buy the materials, I can contact you. Please leave me your email.
Every little bit helps!! Thank you so much!!
