Hello to all! My name is Shane and I'm an animator who moved from the Caribbean to the United States to pursue my dream in the animation industry. I'm starting over from a long-term, broken relationship which, I am embarrassed to say, left me totally codependent for most of 2024. In this same year, I tore my shoulder working for FedEx, which pretty much left me on workers' compensation, physical therapy, mild invasive surgery, and a decrease in work as an animator, seeing as it was hard to keep my arm elevated while drawing.
At the start of 2025, I set myself goals and most of them were going well.
- I got a cozy apartment. (My own boundary)
- Almost had the car (Owner backed out at the last minute)
- I got 2 jobs (both say they are short on work due to bad ratings and delayed deliverables) "Nothing til' mid-August"
To paint a picture in your head, I can make about $3,000 per month, but this month I have only earned $740.00.
It feels terrifyingly awful to not sleep properly, change my diet, or live in paranoia of any auto payments that I had to manually monitor.
--DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT?--
I have let some family in my home country know about my situation, but there are some limitations to sending US currency, so I am currently:
- Donating blood/plasma (ouch)
- Preparing ads to reopen commissioned artwork ASAP
- Applying to government assistance programs
- Budgeting to survive the drop in income
- Applying to jobs outside of my industry that may offer a safer future, financially speaking
I am so sorry if this was a heavy read... more so, I am terribly sorry for asking for your hard-earned money. It wasn't ever supposed to be this way but this is possibly a last stand so I am desperate to succeed. I wish to do my part in the near future as giving to the poor is a goal that I want to restart soon.
I think I will be okay in about 2 months or so, but I just need to survive until then. From what I have been told, "Seems like you wanna do the work but you just have bad luck happening for now." I hope you choose to donate and I thank you tremendously for your time, consideration, and/or donation.
