Early this morning, the world became a bit quieter, and our family suffered a tragedy we could never have prepared for. Shane Spillane, only 26, beloved son, brother, twin, cousin, nephew and friend—was taken from us in a brutal car accident.

Also involved in the accident were three of his close friends, status unknown. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. No matter the outcome- there is no doubt that their lives will be changed forever. The shock, heartbreak, and a grief too heavy for words.

This leaves a hole in our hearts even larger than one that was already there, as just 8 years ago, Shane’s older sister, Danielle, was taken from us at 31 years old. Shane’s passing means that their mother, Donna, is now facing the unimaginable pain of losing a second child. No parent should ever have to suffer this once—let alone twice. We know Shane has been greeted by the loving embrace of his older sister. Donna, as well as Shane’s father, Tom, are both in a fragile emotional state, and will need serious support in the weeks and months ahead.

Shane leaves behind his twin brother, Zach, who is experiencing a level of heartbreak that only a twin can understand. He will look in the mirror every day to see not only his reflection, but to be reminded of a giant part of him that is lost. Their younger sister, Taylor, is also grieving the loss of a brother she loved dearly. This entire family is shattered, and will need counseling, time, and the gentle support of their community to make it through this.

The Spillane family has struggled financially for a long time. They are unable to cover the sudden and overwhelming costs of funeral arrangements, burial services, and the urgent mental health care that Donna desperately needs.

Without support, they simply cannot give Shane the dignified farewell he deserves.
