Aloha Friends and family,
My name is Joe, I am the brother-in-law of Shane Kaleipu Menza. We are saddened by the news of his sudden passing in Japan. It has been a shock to everyone that knows and loves him.
As requested by many friends and family, we have created this gofundme for anyone who would like to pay their respects in remembrance of Shane.
Shane was born and raised in Hawaii. When he finished high school he went and joined the Navy and retired some years later. He then traveled and lived in Japan. Shane loved living in Japan and lived up there for 20+ years. After the first time he lived up there, he came back to Hawaii and lived here until he was done with college, where he attended UH Manoa. After he graduated he moved back to Japan and stayed there till his last day. He will always be remembered as one of the happiest people. He loved to hike in the mountains, travel to faraway countries, always smiling, having a great time, but most of all he loved to eat. Whether it's with family, friends or colleagues, he was very kind and tried to be a funny person, lol.
Shane was always a procrastinator when it came to him doing his homework and other things but always finished what needed to be done right before the deadline. He was someone who never opened up to anyone about any of his problems, he always kept to himself but was always there when you needed someone to talk to or wanted to just hang out.
Although Shane never had any kids, he does leave behind his mother, 2 sisters, nieces, nephews, and a grandnephew.
The current plan is to have Shane cremated in Japan. We currently do not have a service date as it has been difficult to do it from another country. We will be glad to update anyone on a date for his cremation services for those who would like to attend.
Once he has been cremated, we will have his remains brought back home to Hawaii where we will most likely have a small memorial service (date to be determined) and spread his ashes in the ocean. Although he wasn't a beach boy, I don't think his family will be able to hike up a mountain over here lol.
Please share any pictures and stories you had with Shane.
Our family thanks every one of you for getting to know Shane and for being in his life. He will be missed dearly with his bright smile that could light up a room.
