So much has been said of the devastating impact COVID has had, and continues to have, on the Arts across the world.
So many of my colleagues in the music and theatre industries have had most, if not all their work completely ripped from under their feet with little warning, and continue to struggle to make ends meet working in temporary positions outside the natural creative habitat in which they have worked all their adult lives.
Having been personally impacted I, like so many others, have been taking time to creatively reassess managing a career within the arts.
We all have our stories, but I mostly chose to lay low over the past year and focused on some modest writing and arranging work.
2021 was always going to be the year that I release my fifth studio album, the last being in 2014 - so well overdue.
I have a proven history of employing hundreds of musicians (orchestral, rock, vocalists etc) over the past twenty years.
I’d estimate that 90 % of all the work I’ve created for professional purposes, either live or recorded, has employed live professional musicians.
With that being said I have decided to proceed to record my new album as soon as possible.
This will be my first ever purely instrumental album and will allow me to record some fantastic sweeping orchestral crossover work, exploring styles and moods that expand on my vocal work.
Equally as important it will allow me the opportunity to continue to employ as many as possible of the incredible roster of professional musicians I have been so blessed to work with over the years.
So here’s the part where I ask you to help out if you can.
The project isn’t something I anticipate making very much money personally from, but I will benefit from an extension of my music portfolio; and will be able to get musicians into a studio for some significant paid work.
I have launched the campaign via GoFundMe. All donors will receive a digital copy of the album on completion + 50% off tickets to a live performance later in the year.
A minimum donation of £15 with no maximum limit.
The basic principle is that the more funds I raise, the more musicians I can employ on the project.
