In Loving Memory of Shandy-Lynn Briggs
(November 23, 1971 - May 1, 2020)
Shandy-Lynn, or Shandy as we at the office had the honour of calling her, was our fierce, intelligent, and compassionate leader. She had coined the name "The Dream Team" for our staff, which was her way of telling us that we were her office family.
We will remember Shandy not only by the office potlucks we had, the leadership seminars we attended, the good morning smiles she gave, the Valentine's Day donuts she bought, or the hour-long meetings we sat in together, but also by her courageous voice, her strong character, and her endearing presence.
Her Journey's Just Begun

"Don't think of her as gone away
her journey's just begun,
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.
Just think of her as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.
Think how she must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.
And think of her as living
in the hearts of those she touched...
for nothing loved is ever lost
and she was loved so much."
This fundraiser was created in hopes that we could honour and commemorate Shandy's life, and the impact she had on each of us individually. All proceeds will go to The Canadian Women's Heart Health Centre (https://cwhhc.ottawaheart.ca/our-cause) in Shandy's name, and towards the purchasing of a commemorative tree in Toronto, Ontario.

Shandy-Lynn, ou Shandy comme nous avions l’honneur de l’appeler au bureau, c’était notre dirigeante. Elle était passionnée, intelligente et compatissante. Elle disait de nous que nous étions son « Équipe de rêve ». C’était sa façon à elle de nous dire que nous étions sa famille au bureau.
Nous nous souviendrons de Shandy non seulement pour les repas-partage que nous avons organisés au bureau, pour les ateliers sur le leadership auxquels nous avons participé, pour les sourires qu’elle arborait quand elle nous disait bonjour, pour les beignets qu’elle apportait à la Saint-Valentin ou pour les longues réunions auxquelles nous participions ensemble, mais aussi pour sa voix courageuse, son caractère fort et sa présence attachante.
Son voyage ne fait que commencer

La vie est faite de multiples facettes
Qui ne s’arrêtent pas à notre planète.
Dites-vous qu’elle a pris du repos
Loin des soucis et des ennuis
Dans un endroit chaud où il faut beau
Entre ici et l’infini.
Dites-vous qu’elle doit souhaiter
Que nous sachions déjà
Que, de nos pensées,
Seule la tristesse s’en ira.
Sachez qu’elle restera présente
Dans tous les cœurs qu’elle a touchés
Car ce qui est aimé jamais ne s’absente
Et elle était tellement aimée. »
Cette collecte de fonds a été créée dans l’espoir que nous puissions honorer et commémorer la vie de Shandy ainsi que l’influence qu’elle a eue sur chacun d’entre nous, individuellement. Tous les bénéfices seront versés au Centre canadien de santé cardiaque pour les femmes (https://cwhhc.ottawaheart.ca/fr/faire-evoluer-les-choses) au nom de Shandy, et serviront aussi à l’achat d’un arbre commémoratif à Toronto, en Ontario.
