Hello, my name is Serina and this is my mom, Shana Marie Quast. She was born on the first of September and had beautiful green eyes. She knew alot of people, SO many people, because she was silly and beautiful and absolutely bursting with light and life. She was loved by anyone who knew her.

She was an incredible gardener. Since I was small she was always making improvements in the yard and teaching anyone who would listen about the scientific names of all the plants. She loved exploring plant nurseries, the master garden show, and anywhere that grew rare plants. She knew the nursery staff and was thrilled to be invited to tour people's gardens. She rehabilitated orchids and knew how to perk up any sad plant that was sent her way.

She was a healer and worked at the hospital since I was itty bitty. She took care of me and my siblings at every opportunity and did the same for anyone she came into contact with. She was intelligent, loved learning about medicine, and was passionate about her job in wound care. More than that, the patients she served became long time friends of hers. I found an envelope today that was bursting with recognition badges for going above and beyond for patients and her team at Asante.

She was an artist who loved working with graphite. In school, she was recognized for her talent, and those who are especially lucky have a piece of her artwork. She was endlessly creative in every aspect of her life. Her handwriting itself was a work of art.

She was mother to 4 children, of whom she couldn't be more proud. She loved them more than anything and always put herself last when it came to providing for her kids. The 4 of us are doing our best to rally around each other and it warms my heart to see the outpouring of love from family, friends, and strangers.

If you knew her, I'm glad that you experienced her warmth and joy. That her light has gone out from this world is an unexpected and profound loss. She was a very special person and I am so lucky she was my mom.
