Shana vs Stage 3 Cancer

A few months ago, I found out my best friend Shana was diagnosed with Stage 3 Lung cancer. Unfortunately, she has a gene that makes her predisposed to getting it. I have known Shana for over a decade, and she is one of the kindest souls you will ever meet despite living through so many difficulties. Many years ago, she suffered a waitressing accident that resulted in squashed discs in her spine, disabling her and making it difficult to find work that her body could allow. Although she struggles in so much constant pain, she rarely loses her smile and shows a great capacity for patience in others. Shana is everybody’s friend no matter their age, culture, background, or political opinion. I know how much she wanted to have children, and although she couldn’t, I think so many around her consider her a mama bear figure. Now, Shana is facing Stage 3 cancer, and she and her husband Jef are doing everything they can to help her have the best chance at beating it. She’s had surgery and is now in the middle of chemo treatments. Shana and Jef have never been well off, and although they won’t admit it, I know they are struggling financially and could use help.
