Shana Stein Memorial Fund
Donation protected
Shana’s friends have organized this effort, with the following message:
There are many things that made Shana special. She had a remarkable gift for gathering people together, and she honored and revered natural beauty. We all have special places where we remember meeting with Shana. In the last 15 years, this included Evanston’s Smith Park, where Shana watched her girls grow up and organized countless events for neighborhood friends, and the Chicago Botanic Gardens, a special/verdant sanctuary where Shana would enjoy landscapes filled with flowers, trees, and waterfalls with family and friends.
When discussing her memorial wishes with Mat, Shana imagined a garden setting where people could gather. To honor Shana’s wishes, we would like to dedicate a beautiful, natural space where Shana’s memory will live on. To this end we are collecting funds to realize one or more of the following:
- A dedicated garden bed at the Botanic Gardens: $25,000 and up
- A garden bench at the Botanic Gardens: $5,000 to $15,000
- A dedicated bench at Smith Park, a block from Shana’s house: $6,000
- A tree dedication at the Botanic Gardens: $2,000 to $7,500.
We are starting the goal amount at $10,000 and will increase it based on the responses we get. We will put to good use all contributions we receive in order to have the biggest impact in honoring Shana’s beautiful legacy.
Please contribute what you can. At Shana’s birthday gathering and celebration of life on April 24 we will announce the goal(s) we have reached. We will keep everyone posted on the installation(s) to ensure that all can pay a visit to Shana there.
With Love, Mat and Shana’s friends
