Shamon's Journey Beating Cancer
Donation protected
Our mom, Shamon, was diagnosed with stage 2 Adenocarcinoma early this September 2021. The process of getting diagnosed took her through months of waiting on biopsy results because of how rare this particular cancer is and the location it is in. Her OBGYN doctor with over 30 years experience, had to send the biopsy to Stanford because he had never seen anything like this before. While waiting for the results, the tumor grew larger and advanced into stage 2.
Treatments will begin on Monday, October 25th, 2021. They will include both internal and external radiation 5 days a week for 6 weeks, and chemotherapy once a week for 6 weeks. She will also need MRI and CT scans weekly to monitor the size of the mass and to ensure treatment is effective. Luckily radiation is about a 30 minute treatment while chemotherapy can be up to a 5 hour process. We are hoping this will be the only round of treatments she will need.
As if this year hasn't been difficult enough, my father, David, has recently undergone shoulder surgery and was diagnosed with Parkinson's in late July 2021. This disease will effect his mobility and ability to work while my mom is actively going through her chemotherapy and radiation. He is doing everything he can to be there for her and our family despite his diagnosis.
Shamon Celeste Manlowe has positively influenced every life she has been apart of. She has always been the light that has kept our family together through difficult times. She goes out of her way to make everyone feel seen, special, and loved. She is the greatest mother anyone could ever ask for and we know she has the strength to navigate this illness. Right now we want to do everything we can to be strong and supportive of her so that she can focus on staying well and beating this cancer.
We know that cancer is not only a physical burden, but a financial one as well. Insurance only covers so much. Changes in lifestyle, doctor's visits, gas, not being able to work - it adds up and makes an overwhelming situation that much harder. Every dollar we are able to raise for Shamon and David is a financial and emotional burden that we can lift off their shoulders.
We know Shamon will KICK CANCER'S ASS!!!!!
