Hi, my name is Rajbir, and I’m creating this fundraiser in loving memory of Shallu, who was not just my friend — she was like a sister to me.

Shallu was a beautiful soul, a kind and compassionate woman who spread love wherever she went. She had a warm smile that could light up a room and a heart that embraced everyone she met.

Tragically, on a quiet September morning in Edmonton (Griesbach), Alberta, 34-year-old Shallu’s life was brutally taken from her. As she was leaving for work around 6:30 a.m., she was attacked outside her home — the place she should have felt safest. The people responsible were the very ones she once called family — her estranged husband, Roshan Lal, and her brother-in-law, Bal Kishan.

According to the Edmonton Police Service(Link to the EPS news), both men have been charged in connection with her homicide. Shallu was stabbed multiple times, losing her life instantly in a senseless act of violence.

Shallu came to Canada from Punjab, India, with dreams of building a better life. She worked hard as a healthcare aide, dedicating herself to caring for others. Behind her gentle smile, she carried the pain of a seven-year abusive marriage, which she had finally found the courage to leave. For the past year, she was trying to rebuild her life — a new beginning filled with hope and independence.

Even while facing her own struggles, Shallu always made sure everyone around her felt loved, seen, and supported. She was the kind of person who would give you her last dollar, her last smile, and her endless compassion.

After her passing, Shallu’s body was brought to Ontario, where her two sisters — both here on temporary work visas — arranged her funeral with the help of the community, and her grieving parents, a younger brother who traveled all the way from India.

The pain this family is enduring is beyond words. No parent should have to cremate their child, especially under such horrific circumstances. Alongside their heartbreak, they now face overwhelming financial strain — from funeral costs to legal expenses in their ongoing fight for justice.
