Shallot get urgent medical care
Donation protected
Hi my name is Lindsey, and I never thought I would have to do one of these things. Shallot is not doing well at all. I have maxed out my Care Credit card and I have no more money to help her get care. I didnt want to start a goal on this thing that was too high but, in reality, I still owe over $800 to Care Credit.
Shallot went to two vet appointments today. After the first, i knew she was still struggling. I was right. Just to show you how bad Shallot's breathing was tonight...a normal cat that is calm, their breathing is at 40, a stressed-out cat can get up to 60. Shallot's breathing tonight? 100!
On Wednesday, 12/7/22, around 5pm, Shallot breathing was fast and labored when i got home from work. She had been fine the day before; signs of anything prior. Her heart rate was fast. She was completely out of it and lethargic. Nothing could get her attention. She was stressed out and in pain. I knew something wasnt right so i called the vet and made an appt.
She went to her vet as of Thursday morning, and just got back tonight, same day, from the emergency vet. I struggle like so many of us do. I live paycheck to paycheck. My cat is my entire world. I thought she was going to die tonight. I thought I wasn't bringing her home. But the fact that there is hope is so anazing!! It's just also incredibly frustrating that i have no more money to give!! Im out of options. She may need these xrays within the next couple of days so that's why this is so urgent. If she is still struggling to breathe, we have to act fast.
When Shallot was at the vets Thursday morning, she had all types of bloodwork done. She has been previously diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and early stage kidney disease. She eats a special food and takes 2 meds daily. She has been acting fine for several months now. She just turned 8 yesterday.
After today's appt, the doctor said it could be her heart. But bloodwork came back great. Thyroid was good, minor med adjustment, kidney levels were great. She gained weight! No temp! No wounds or tooth or gum issues. They were kind of stumped and I was very discouraged to say the least.
The point is, she didnt get any better Thursday, and I could tell her breathing was still bad and she was stressed. My roommate and I just took her to the emergency vet in Portsmouth tonight. The vet was able to conclude it is not heart failure, and not likely a GI issue. With her symptoms, I thought it was heart failure and that's why we went tonight to the vet. But Shallot probably has asthma! They really need some good chest extras to go forward with this idea, and rule out other options. The vet tonight said she is getting good oxygen (gums looksd a good color).
Im working on some side hustles and i have been strictly budgeting myself. But I really need help and I hate having to ask. If you can help and donate in any way, it would mean so much to me. Even just sharing this link helps us out.
I know I wrote a novel and I so appreciate you reading it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Love, Lindsey & Shallot
