Shalford Cricket Club - COVID-19 appeal

Donation protected
Shalford Cricket Club was formed in the village of Shalford in the south of England in 1864.

Not only has it played an integral part in the local community,  it has contributed to the very essence of English village cricket for more than 150 years. Each year we play a full schedule of matches against other local cricket teams. Players from far and wide have played for and against us, many sharing happy memories and we’ve kept running thanks to the hard work and enthusiasm of our members, friends, families and fellow cricketers.

Now though, like many other small sports clubs, we face difficult and uncertain times. The England Cricket Board has declared that no games shall be played at this present time and the Government has said that all sports facilities and places of leisure are to remain closed for the foreseeable future.

Each year we rely on the matches we play to generate enough money to keep the club going. This is assisted by membership fees along with other small fundraising initiatives.  We now face a period of uncertainty and the very real threat of Shalford CC’s proud century-and-a-half history and tradition coming to an end.  We’ve already taken drastic action to cut costs and work out how we can raise funds without contravening the Government’s rules on social distancing.   But an anticipated loss of more than £10,000 means it is a major challenge to pay bills and ensure vital ground maintenance is kept up for when we hopefully will be able to resume as normal.

So Shalford CC is appealing to cricket lovers and everyone who holds the tradition of village cricket as close to their hearts as we do, for their financial support.  We are grateful for all donations,  especially as we understand these are challenging times for all of us.  We promise that every penny will go towards the upkeep of the club and its facilities.  We had an ambition to buy a new scoreboard this year but instead we are now focused simply on keeping Shalford Cricket Club afloat so it can continue to contribute to the rich tradition of English village cricket.
