Shakiah Taheedah Ross

Hi, on behalf of MAPP 7Team, we are raising funds to support our MAPP brother Hasan Mabry and his mother Yvonne Ross during these very challenging days following the loss of their sister/daughter Shakiah Taheedah Ross. The funds will assist them in honoring her life and legacy in her upcoming memorial and hopefully provide some financial relief throughout their bereavement.

For those of us who never had the fortune to know Shakiah, here is a beautiful obituary of her life. Please take a moment to celebrate the woman she was and what she brought to our world.

Shakiah was born August 1, 1980, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to mother, Yvonne Ross and father, Horace Jackson Jr.

She departed this life on December 7, 2022. Shakiah was educated in the Philadelphia school system and earned her diploma from Chester High School. Following her schooling, Shakiah began working in the food-service industry, as cooking was her true passion. Aside from her food-service experience, Shakiah also spent time caring for patients through private-duty nursing, as well as caring for children in childcare facilities.

In 2010, Shakiah decided to submit to the law of Allah and took her Shadadah. Shakiah felt in her heart that she would find the most comfort in Islam.

Shakiah was an outgoing, free-spirited person who loved life and the people close to her. She loved planning days at the beach and swimming at the pool with her family. Her favorite hobbies included cooking, dancing, traveling, and music. Her love for cooking started with watching tons of food network shows and trying out all sorts of restaurants. She always aspired to be a chef and would try all of her most recent recipes at home with her mother and brother. Shakiah also found a lot of joy in caring for children, especially her 'lil nieces and nephews.

Loved ones that preceded her in death: grandmother, Louise "Jazzy Lady" Smith; grandmother, Grace Jackson; uncle, Ronnie "Peace Sign" Smith; cousin, Tyron Smith; cousin, Brianna Tilison; and aunt, Patricia Curry.

Shakiah leaves to cherish her memories: mother Yvonne "Niecy" Ross; father, Horace Jackson, Jr.; brother, Hasan "Ty" Mabry; ten aunts; two uncles, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other devoted relatives and friends.

With grateful hearts, the family of the late Shakiah Taheedah Ross acknowledges with deepest and sincere heartfelt appreciation to those who were there during this time of bereavement. May God bless each of you.
