On Saturday, June 23rd, John and Ann woke up early for a morning hike in the woods of Pisgah National Forest. They'd planned for a day of rambling on trails with their dog, Harvey, and picnicking by a swimming hole along the Horsepasture River.
Just above Rainbow Falls, Harvey edged along the river for a drink, crawling on the rocks to get closer to the water. Two paws in, he slipped and was swiftly swept downriver by the torrid current. John tossed his backpack to the ground and jumped in after him, immediately overtaken by the river's force. In a matter of seconds, they were carried over the 150 foot granite falls and died.
Despite a burgeoning career and ambitious future plans, Ann and John, like many of us, also had loose ends, reflective of the belief that they had plenty of time to get it all done. Neither one had drafted a will; neither one had taken out a life insurance policy.
In honor of John, we're asking for financial support to help ease the burden for my sister, Ann, as she takes on sole responsibility for their financial obligations.
This money will be used to support the transfer of John's estate into Ann's name and pay down significant hardship as a result of John's death. All proceeds will be directly available to Ann through bank drafts from this Go Fund Me account.
