For those of you who don't know Shaelyn's story, This summer (2015) Shaelyn had a neck injury which resulted in a dissected carotid artery that was not properly diagnosed, so on October 5th 2015, the blood clot that had formed over 3 months released causing her to have a stroke on the right side of her brain. Being on the right side of her brain, Shaelyn's left side of her body became paralyzed.
Finally after spending 10 days at Windsor Regional Hospital on Ouelette, everyone's prayers were answered when a bed became available for her at Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare Rehab Hospital (the old IODE).
Having her students awaiting her recovery at Nancy Pattison's Dance World, her first year of University in progress, and her part-time job at the Mall, Shaelyn was extremely motivated with her positive attitude to work hard and make the best possible recovery so that she may regain her strength and return to her beloved students and her normal life.
Shaelyn was offered an amazing opportunity to participate in a research trial called Myndmove that includes 20 one-hour sessions of electrical stimulation through electrodes that will hopefully reconnect her muscles with her brain and retrain her mobility in her left arm. Eager to recover ASAP, Shaelyn accepted this offer and started her treatment process.
Having already received the discharge date of November 20th, Shaelyn was obligated to finish the rest of the 11 sessions that she had left as an outpatient.
Shaelyn is now undergoing physio therapy, occupational therapy, and the myndmove therapy at the Rehab center 5 days a week as an outpatient. She has been told that after her 20 free sessions of Myndmove are complete, she will need another 20 sessions to further her recovery, which isn't cheap! This is where you come in! Because of Shaelyn's lack of insurance, she will need all the help she can get to recover from this tragedy. With your help, she will be able to pay for the rest of her treatment and hopefully return back to her normal life.
Any contribution and help towards Shaelyn's recovery will be put to great use and is greatly appreciated!
