Meet my new pup! This Border Collie puppy has a severe viral infection called parvo. Because the prognosis is gaurded, even with treatment, his owner requested euthanasia. After euthanizing my first very first patient of 2017 (a 2 month old kitten with an untreatable disease called FIP), I decided I could not go through with another euthanasia of a young animal, particularly one with a chance at survival. Fortunately, the owner willingly accepted my offer to take over the pup's care.
Parvovirus is preventable with vaccination. No dog with access to vaccines should ever have to experience this disease. There is no cure for the virus but aggressive supportive care can be enough to help a patient survive until the virus is cleared. With the amazing love and care from the awesome staff at my hospital , we plan to give this little guy a second chance at survival.
If you have some extra change, please consider contributing to this boy's medical fund. 100% of donations will be put towards his hospitalization and any remaining funds will go towards his future wellness expenses (vaccines, neuter, etc). If you're currently low in the spare change department, I'm also soliciting suggestions for names and recommendations of any potential fosters or adopters. Hopes, prayers, well wishes and shares with your friends & family will also be sincerely appreciated!
Lastly, if nothing else, PLEASE vaccinate your puppies and kittens as recommended by your veterinarian. Save your furry friend, yourself, and your veterinary health team from heartbreak.
Thank you!
