As you might know this past year I moved to Taos, New Mexico .I had no expectations for what the experience would be like. One of the greatest and most surprising sources of joy I have found here has been in building a Jewish community.
My first month here I hosted a small Shabbat with one Jewish friend, Ariel who moved here from NY as well and I thought that would be the extent of it. But since then it snowballed and so many young Jews have popped up out of the woodwork looking for a space to celebrate Shabbat and build community. We nicknamed my house the " Shabbat Spot" and have been enjoying Friday night meals almost every single week. We had a beautiful Chanukkah party where my friends got to light menorah for the first time( thanks to my Ima sending me everything we needed in the mail!) We had a hamantaschen baking ( using my Bobby Freidas recipe of course! ) and were able to give out Mishloach Manot to so many people.
Right now we are really looking forward to hosting a Seder next week. For many of my friends, it will be the first Seder ever in Taos. The truth is, it's become a bit of a challenge for me and my co-host Ariel on our "hippie budget". Hosting Shabbat/ Seder meals for 10+ people is challenging and I would not want to stop due to lack of funds.
I am reaching out to my wonderful family and friends in the hope that you will help me in this wonderful venture. Anything you can give now before Pesach will help defray the cost of Matzah, wine and of course delicious food. If you would also like to sponsor a small amount weekly for Shabbat that would be so appreciated. If you would like to donate a small amount weekly, post a message with your contact and I will give you Zelle/QuickPay instructions.
I miss you all and thank you from the bottom of my heart.
You are all invited to visit me in beautiful Taos and experience the magic of the
" Shabbat Spot " in person.
Have a Chag Kasher V'sameach!
Love,
Chana Bina
